CELEBRATE OUR ANNIVERSARY: ADD 15 ACTS OF LEADERSHIP FOR 15 YEARS

We all want ideas on how we can make a difference through an Act of Leadership. Below is a re-post from Reality Hub’s latest blog update.

As we approach the 15-year anniversary of the creation of The Climate Reality Project, we have a lot to be grateful for – especially you all! If it weren't for our incredible network of volunteers, we would not have made it this far.

However, as you know, there is a lot more work to be done in the effort to combat the climate crisis. That is why we have created a list of 15 Acts of Leadership you can take right now to increase your impact in solving this crisis, and to honor 15 years of Climate Reality. We encourage you to take at least a few of the acts listed below.

You can only log one Act of Leadership at a time, so we ask that if you've completed multiple Acts of Leadership from the list below, you log them each individually, so we can accurately track your Acts of Leadership.

  1. Have a "Climate Conversation" with a family member/close friend. Having a Climate Conversation means having a conversation with someone close to you about the urgency of the climate crisis, how it impacts their life, what they are doing/not doing to meet the moment, and what you will do together to make sure you are collectively helping to create a cleaner and greener world.

  2. Go through the Environmental and Climate Justice Resource Library on Reality Hub (access available to trained Climate Reality Leaders only), and read through/listened to/watched (depending on the resource) at least three resources.

  3. Sign up to join the Climate Advocacy Lab, a community of over 3,000 climate advocates, organizers, field and academic researchers, and data specialists working together to take action on the climate crisis, while prioritizing environmental and climate justice.

  4. Research Environmental/Climate justice issues in your area and take action (contact a local organization, share what you've learned with a neighbor, etc.)

  5. View at least three sessions from a training you did not attend in the Leadership Corps Training Materials section of the Resource Library on Reality Hub (access available to trained Climate Reality Leaders only).

  6. Sign our petition on the Build Back Better Act, a potentially monumental piece of legislation for climate.

  7. Contact your Congressperson regarding the Build Back Better Act by texting "ASAP" to 434-266-8464.

  8. Get involved in COP 26 (yes, you still can!), whether that be through viewing COP 26 footage of speakers on the COP 26 YouTube channel, viewing the COP 26 livestream, following relevant Twitter pages such as #COP26 insiders or the #missingvoicescop26, reading one of our COP 26 blogs, or sharing on your own social media channels.

  9. Join our local Bay Area Climate Reality Project chapter.

  10. Apply for a leadership or team position within your chapter.

  11. Sign up for our upcoming December Book Club meeting, (access available to trained Climate Reality Leaders only) or read at least one of the books we have read in Book Club this year:

    • "Waste: One Woman's Fight Against America's Dirty Secret" by Catherine Flowers

    • "Memory of Water" by Emmi Itaranta

    • "Who Killed Berta Caceres? Dams, Death Squads, and an Indigenous Defender’s Battle for the Planet" by Nina Lakhani

    • "Change the Story, Change the Future" by David C. Korten

    • "The Water Dancer" by Ta-Nehisi Coates

    • "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer

  12. Read about how young people are fighting the climate crisis in one of our recent blogs.

  13. Read about the inspiring work of some of our Climate Reality Leaders in the Climate Leader Recognition Forum on Reality Hub (access available to trained Climate Reality Leaders only).

  14. Share the link to our Reality List to a family member/friend to plug others into what we are doing in this fight, and how they can help combat the climate crisis.

  15. Sign up for SMS alerts from The Climate Reality Project (US Leaders). Supported The Climate Reality Project through donation and/or created a Facebook fundraiser for The Climate Reality Project
