HELP SAVE SOLAR IN CALIFORNIA: TAKE ACTION TODAY!
Right now, the big three California utilities — PG&E, SoCal Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric — are trying to convince the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to make small-scale and rooftop solar twice as expensive as it is today.
This would put solar out of reach for lower-income communities just as it’s becoming more affordable.
If we are to reach our goal of a net-zero California energy grid, we need to keep the incentives for solar and wind power implementation active.
Today, middle- and lower-income neighborhoods make up nearly half of all new solar installations in California. Small-scale solar lowers energy bills for everyone because it helps eliminate the need for new, expensive, and inefficient transmission lines. Growing local, rooftop solar is critical to preventing runaway climate change and increasing community resilience to climate disasters.
Under the current policies, more than 1 million homes, 2,000 schools, about 1,000 farms, and 300 apartment buildings have become powered by the sun throughout California. If the proposed changes are approved, the costs will shoot up for residential customers as well as schools, churches, farms, and small businesses.
Support clean, affordable solar energy for all. Tell the CPUC not to kill California’s solar revolution today!
Here is what the utilities are lobbying the CA Public Utilities Commission that would kill Rooftop Solar:
Charging a penalty fee of $56 and $91/month just for having solar panels on a home.
Schools and churches with more panels would pay between $950 and $3,400 each month.
Slashing the credit for sending surplus solar electricity to the grid by 77%.
We need to incentivize programs for rooftop solar because:
Rooftop solar saves billions. Could save ratepayers $120 billion over the next thirty years.
Rooftop solar saves land. For every gigawatt of rooftop solar, almost 5,200 acres of land can be protected.
Rooftop solar saves power. Rooftop solar alone powers 2,000 schools, 1,000 farms, 300 apartment buildings & over a million homes - plus 400 new consumers plug in every day to save money and reduce pollution.
