HP’s vision is to create technology that makes life better for everyone, everywhere. And they have attached lofty goals focused on putting the planet first, and is being recognized for their efforts.

HP exceeded the criteria in 2020 directed by Energy Star to be named Partner of the Year in 2020 for sustained excellence. Partners must perform at a superior level of energy management, as well as demonstrate best practices across the organization and prove organization-wide energy savings. HP deserves kudos for making outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.

HP outlines several key goals to put the planet first when creating their products and solutions for their customers.

  • Zero deforestation

HP has realized a majority of their goal of achieving zero deforestation associated with HP brand paper and paper-based product packaging by 2020. They achieved 100% of this goal for their paper back in 2016, and have maintained that mark. In 2019, 80% of paper-based product packaging met this goal.

In addition, HP has committed to plant one million trees by 2020 to support Arbor Day Foundation and a forest-positive future.

  • Product use greenhouse gas emissions

By 2025, HP has pledged to reduce HP product use greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 30% (compared to 2015). Through 2019, they have achieved an 18% decrease.

  • Recycled plastic

By 2025, HP plans to use 30% post-consumer recycled content plastic across HP’s personal systems and print product portfolio. Through 2019, they have achieved 9%.

HP continues to find innovative ways to increase the amount and type of recycled materials in their products, including their keyboards and personal system products. Through a groundbreaking recycling program in Haiti, HP has sourced more than 450 tonnes of ocean-bound plastic bottles for recycling and reuse that might have otherwise washed into the ocean.

  • Recycling

By 2025, HP has pledged to recycle 1.2 million tonnes of hardware and supplies. They are well on their way to that goal, reaching 528,300 tonnes through 2019.
